They pop up from time to time on ebay, not dirt cheap but not expensive either - think I paid about 10 quid for mine, really they are just curiosities these days and appeal to the collector of atari ephemera such as myself.

The cart was very very popular in its day as it was a cheap way to get a mac and it actually ran twice as fast as the Mac Plus by virtue of the STs faster clocked 68K processor. The GCR version is doublely good as you can connect an external ST floppy drive into the cart (which daisy chains to the external floppy port on the ST) and you gain a native Mac drive.

I think they are 6 but cant be 100% sureĪs far as the emulation goes its very very good - any software thats well behaved will run - by well behaved I mean anything that accesses the system resources via the toolbox, games and software that addresses the hardware directly to gain speed and funky features wont like it at all. I cant recall what the highest versions of system finder and viewer it allowed - I have my Spectre GCR cart running the latest it can take but I would have to look up what versions they actually are. There was a hardware cartridge that contained the MAC ROMs of the day and did allow you to turn your ST into a MAC of that era - the Spectre GCR and the earlier and less powerfull Spectre 128.
